Tunduru Tuition Centres
Tunduru Tuition Centres is an education programme of the Tunduru Community Development Initiative (TCDI). It is not a separate organisation, not a private school, and not a replacement for regular schooling.
Supporting learning beyond regular school hours
Regular schooling remains the formal education system. TCDI adds community-based supplementary sessions and academic guidance alongside it, close to where learners live.
Our constitutional basis
TCDI's constitution provides for supplementary learning sessions, academic guidance, preparation for higher education, volunteer teaching in schools, and collaboration with educational institutions and teachers, all under the laws of Tanzania.
Working with schools and authorities
TCDI works with schools, teachers and relevant authorities to strengthen learning opportunities in Tunduru District.
Academic support
Supplementary sessions in school subjects, following the learner's level, so that classroom learning is reinforced rather than replaced.
Guidance and future pathways
Alongside lessons, the programme offers academic guidance, career guidance and preparation for higher education.
A youth volunteer pathway
Teaching is carried by young volunteers in scheduled intakes: Form Four leavers waiting to continue (about four to five months, mathematics and English), Form Six leavers awaiting results or university, and university students and graduates serving during vacations. Volunteers are selected through an interview for competence and good conduct.
A community role
Each centre is hosted and supported by its own community, which decides how it runs day to day.
