According to the Ruvuma Regional Secretariat, Ruvuma Region has introduced FHI360 and JHPIEGO as new development partners executing the America First Global Health Strategy (AFGHS) project, targeting HIV and malaria interventions across the region.
Speaking at an introductory meeting held on 27 October 2026 at Songea Club Hall, Ruvuma Regional Administrative Secretary Mary Gasper Makondo directed the organisations to work closely with local health teams to enhance HIV diagnosis, especially among children, youth, men, and marginalised groups. The source added that she instructed council executive directors and health teams to evaluate services at HIV Care and Treatment Clinics (CTC) to identify and rectify deficiencies promptly.
Regarding malaria control, the Regional Administrative Secretary underscored the importance of using treated mosquito nets, eliminating mosquito breeding sites, and ensuring patients are tested prior to receiving medication, the report stated.
The publication noted that Ministry of Health representative Dr. Emmanuel Kimario praised the role of development partners in advancing health interventions, while FHI360 Acting Director Dr. Elizabeth Herman expressed commitment to aligning with government priorities through close community and stakeholder collaboration.
Regional public health initiatives targeting malaria and HIV affect community wellbeing and service delivery across all councils in Ruvuma, including Tunduru. This is TCDI context, not a statement by the source, and does not mean TCDI took part in what is reported.
