According to the Ruvuma Regional Secretariat news, the government has allocated 356 million shillings for the construction and improvement of Mshangano Market in Songea Municipal Council. This aims to create a better and safer environment for traders.

The Ruvuma Regional Commissioner, Brigedia Jenerali Ahmed Abbas Ahmed, visited the market and instructed market committees to be re-established. This directive follows the identification that many markets operate outside government procedures and should adhere to TAMISEMI guidelines.

He further directed Songea Municipal Council to ensure that no existing trader is excluded after the market's construction is complete. The District Commissioner of Songea, Mhe. Kapenjama Ndile, stated that the Mshangano area has high business traffic and the municipality is committed to alleviating challenges for entrepreneurs there.

The project will include 112 stalls, 21 shops, three butcheries, a food vendor's stall, chicken stalls and a slaughtering area. It will also feature a loading/unloading zone, offices, toilet facilities, and water systems to ensure the market is modern and sustainable.
